British Shorthair

Breed of shorthaired cat known for its strength, natural good health, and its habit of sleeping a lot.

Its coat is plush for a shorthaired cat and protects the cat well in wet weather and heavy underbrush.

They can be any of 16 colours: white, black, blue, cream, classic tabby, mackerel tabby, silver tabby, red tabby, brown tabby, spotted, tortoiseshell, tortoiseshell and white, blue-cream, bicolour, smoke, and British tipped.

Their ears are medium-sized and round-tipped. The tail is short and thick, eyes are large and rounded, and colour matches or complements coat colour. They have placid, gentle, and easygoing demeanors. Four kittens is the average litter size, and they are fairly pudgy and large.

They were developed into a breed several hundred years ago by Englishman Harrison Weir, who bred good specimens of the common English street cat until he got the hardy breed known today. By the end of the 19th century it became the most popular cat in renowned cat shows at Crystal Palace in London. They are an ideal cat for busy people who have little time to fuss with cat care.
